Dear Members and Friends,
How time flies. Les Voiles d’Antibes is already behind us and what a great event it was. A wonderful balance of fun and games ashore and challenging racing in the beautiful bays of Baie des Anges and Golfe Juan. We were also delighted to finally greet you all under normal circumstances and share a glass of champagne together to open the Mediterranean Champions Cup 2022. I would like also to take this opportunity, on behalf of ourselves and our members, to thank Yann, Thierry and their team for organising yet another fantastic event and for offering help and support when needed. We look forward to many more years of fun and sailing together.

Your Yacht Club, the VCYC, is thriving thanks to the support provided by our partners, great and small, and to the yacht owners who have joined the ever growing list of members. 38 to date!

“BOYD” joined us only last month and have already shown themselves to be committed to the growth of this venture and have achieved an enormous amount of work to benefit the club. Together, we are working on some new ideas to make this season one to remember.

‘Corinthian”, “Ea” and “Cybelle” also signed up this month and we welcome the yachts owners and crews. You can find their profiles on the Yacht Members listing on the website.

And so the fleet splits up, some heading west and others to the east. We understand that it would be difficult to have the VCYC fleet all together for the five events but we wish all of you fair winds, success and fun wherever you sail.

It would be hard to write about classic yachts without mentioning the horrific accident that lead to the sinking of “Eleanora” at the dock in Tarragona, Spain.
I cannot even imagine what the owner and crew are feeling now and all those sailors, craftsmen and friends who have been involved with her over the years.
This is truly a tragic loss to our small world of passionate sailors. I sincerely hope that the legalities are quickly resolved and that she can be returned to her former glory.

Finally, our congratulations go to the winners in Antibes whose results for the Championship can be seen on the website.

Viveka, Comet, Scud, and Arcadia are all provisional leaders in their respective classes and the battle will resume next week in Argentario.

Best regards,
Jono.
